Magna Carta 800th Anniversary Celebrations!

On Wednesday 10th June, Mr Austin, Mrs Ingham, Nadia and Jonah (two of our Year Six pupils) went to Lincoln Cathedral to take part in the celebrations to mark the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta.

The ceremony began with an introduction to the Magna Carta, and how the laws in America and England today came from it. That is why this piece of parchment is so important. Then the Chairman of Historic Lincoln Trust continued, talking about how people in medieval times ripped it to pieces, because they thought it wasn't important then. Only now, eight hundred years later, and after many laws even today were made around this document, do people realise how unbelievably important it is. Finally, the Lord Judge spoke about how England had been at war with France at the time of the writing of the Magna Carta. After this, Lord Judge said that each school would be presented with a copy of The Magna Carta. Later in the ceremony, the copies of the Magna Carta were presented to each school. When St Anne’s CE Primary School was called, Jonah and Nadia went up to collect their copy.

After the ceremony everyone had the chance to explore Lincoln Cathedral. Jonah and Nadia even had time to show some children visiting from Malta the copy of The Magna Carta that they had received. All of the children took photographs and showed a great interest. Overall, a fantastic event that was enjoyed by all.
